7. Carnival Of Zumbis
English translation
Note: In Curaçao culture the zumbi has nothing to do with what western cultures see as Zombis (living dead). In Curaçao zumbis are ghosts. And they are like us all. They like music, have fun, laugh and sing just like us. There are a lot of childrens songs about zumbis. This song is another fun take at the fun life of zumbis. They came from Trinidad to celebrate the zumbi carnival in Curaçao. At the end of the song, in the choir part, I have used parts of a childrens song called Zumbi zo, zumbi za to create the choir. Each phrase is an adaptation of a phrase of that song. (I.C.)

One night in the dark woods
I was walking quickly to reach the light
I was singing a calypso in my head while I was surrounded by trees
And as the calypso was progressing
My legs began getting heavier
Look at the left, some are coming
Look at the right, a lot of them
I looked up and far
I saw some zumbis coming
And as they are walking they are dancing
Jumping up and down with no control
Look at the left, some are coming
Look at the right, a lot of them
Oh what is a poor woman to do
I put myself in the woods of
Zumba Calypso
Zumbis that are dancing calypso
Zumbis that are coming from Trinidad
Zumbis that are real zumbis
They jump, they dance, enjoy and prance till morning comes
As they approached me
I saw that they were Zumbis of Trinidad
Some of them came to celebrate the Carnival of zumbis
Others came on for a nice vacation
Look at the left, some are coming
Look at the right, a lot of them
Oh what is a poor woman to do
I put myself in the woods of
Zumba Calypso
Zumbis that are enjoying carnival
Zumbis that are dancing till the end
Zumbala ay que zumbala
